Jamal
FACILITATOR
Peace, I’m Jamal Vickers. I started in the music industry in 2003, as a DJ with some high school friends. It then bloomed into a career that spanned a decade. By 2013 I had transitioned into artist management, and graduated from round 10 of The Remix Project before moving to Alberta to work in the oilfield. By 2018 I released a passion project “The Black Gang EP” with Toronto's KidKold & DJ Mercilless, Philadelphia Freeway, and other veteran rappers like Ghostface Killah and Beanie Sigel. That same year I landed my first sync placements in the first season of Showtime's hit TV show “The Chi” and started as an Intern at Public Records. During my time at the indie label I assumed multiple roles, starting as a Marketing Manager then sharing the A&R role with founder Gavin Sheppard and heading up the distribution arm. I then moved to Warner Music Canada and held the title of Marketing Manager for Hip-Hop and R&B before my departure in 2024. On my own, I operate JVG - a boutique sync agency with a focus and specialization in Black Music. Repping 20+ artists from Toronto and across Canada, I’ve garnered placements in tv shows and movies like “Kim’s Convenience”, “Survival Box”, “Bria Mack Gets A Life” and multiple seasons of Showtime's “The Chi”. Alongside my career in the music industry, I’ve also been practicing meditation for over 10 years. This was instrumental for me and served as a foundation for not only finding the balance in a chaotic and stressful industry but also for all my future endeavours in the wellness space. In 2024 I launched an initiative called BALM, focusing on teaching mindfulness to the music industry - teaching the basics of Asana, Breathwork, and Meditation, followed by community conversations. To close out the year, I’ve completed my 200 Hr Yoga Teacher Training and will be opening up private classes to artists and business people in the music industry, along with a focus on black men in general. In 2025 I've added to my offerings with Sound Healing and teaching guided meditations both in person and online. -
